Guardian named NZ finalist
We’re going to the big dance and we’re thrilled to bits about it.
Yes, your Ashburton Guardian – your only locally owned newspaper in Mid Canterbury – has had its standing as a high-quality publication emphasised again by being named a finalist in New Zealand’s premier media awards.
The Guardian is a finalist for the Community Newspaper of the Year category for this year's prestigious Voyager Media Awards, with winners to be announced in a glitzy function in Auckland on May 16.
The Guardian is one of just three finalists for the highly sought-after Community Newspaper of the Year category, which is one of 38 awards that will be announced at the annual event.
The Voyagers have attracted 900 entries across print, online and broadcasting categories, which were then whittled down to 114 finalists selected by more than 60 judges in four countries - New Zealand, Australia, Rarotonga, and the United States.
Ashburton Guardian managing editor Daryl Holden said making the community newspaper final again illustrated the talent they have on staff and, more importantly, the support and trust they continually get from readers and advertisers alike.
"Being rated one of the best newspapers in New Zealand is something for everyone in the Ashburton District to be especially proud of,’’ Holden said.
“It shows we’re leading the way in terms of the quality of our journalism and working with advertising clients to tell their stories and promote their wares at a level that has been recognised nationally.
“That’s great for us and great for our community.’’
