Selwyn council CEO standing down
Selwyn District Council chief executive Sharon Mason is resigning after two years in the top job.
Mason will continue to lead the organisation until an interim chief executive is appointed to ensure stability and continuity of services, a statement from council said.
The council will consider the resignation and appointment of an interim chief executive at an extraordinary meeting next week.
A decision on the recruitment of a new chief executive will be made at its meeting on January 21.
Mason took over the role in July 2023 from David Ward, who retired after 10 years as chief executive.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and it has been a privilege to work with such talented, dedicated, and hardworking people," Mason said in a statement.
“With councillor induction complete and the new council ready to set its strategic direction, I believe now is the right time to allow a new leader to guide the organisation through its next chapter.”
Mayor Lydia Gliddon said that Mason has led this organisation through a period of significant change during her tenure.
“Improving and strengthening internal processes across council and guiding the organisation to position council for a successful future.
“She has overseen major strategic initiatives, including a financial hygiene program, the establishment of Selwyn Water Limited, and provided steady leadership through complex and demanding challenges.
“Her dedication and care for staff have been evident throughout, and we are deeply grateful for her service.”
“We thank Sharon for her service, integrity, and contribution she has made to Selwyn, and wish her well in her next chapter.”
The statement from the council said no further comment would be made at this time.
